Mason Durell Betha was born in August 1975 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents P. K. and Mason. Notably, his father left the family when he and his twin sister Stason were three.
Furthermore, Mase has two brothers in addition to his three sisters. The family spent most of their childhood’s living in Harlem, New York with their mother.
However, Mase was sent back to Florida to live with relatives when he was 13 years old. Then, he moved back to Harlem two years later where he was a standout point guard at Manhattan Center High School. Actually, he and rapper Cam’ron were teammates in 1993.
Afterward, the rapper enrolled at State University of New York at Purchase. There, he began taking an interest in music, even performing at night clubs before dropping out to pursue rap.

Originally, he and Cam’ron formed a rap group under the names Murda Mase and Killa Cam called the Children of the Corn. In fact, Damon Dash was the group’s manager for a while.
In 1996, Mase inked a $250 thousand deal with Bad Boy Records. Then, he dropped his debut album titled Harlem World the following year. The tape debuted atop the Billbaord Pop and R&B album charts and has now sold over four copies in the United States.
The rapper released his sophomore effort, Double Up, in 1999 to moderate success. After selling over 350 thousand copies its first week, Mase decided to retire from rap.
He would take a five-year break from music. During this time, he enrolled at Clark Atlanta University and became an ordained minister.
In 2004, he returned with the release of Welcome Back, which debuted at number four on the charts. In all, the LP has sold just under 600 thousand units as of 2022.
Lastly, Mase has ventured on his fair share of tours over the years, even accompanying G-Unit on the road in the mid 2000s before eventually joining the rap group.

Mase married a woman named Twyla Betha in 2001 but, the two officially separated in 2014.
