Early life

Kyrsten Sinema was born on the 12th of July, 1976 in Tucson, Arizona, United States. She was born to her parents, Dan and Marilyn Sinema. Her dad, Dan was an attorney. She was a kid when her parents separated with a divorce. Following her parent’s separation, her mom took over the custody of the kids and remarried. Kyrsten grew up with two siblings; an elder brother and a younger sister.

Regarding her educational background, she has studied at Walton High School. Then, she joined Brigham Young University from where she earned her University degree in 1995. Kyrsten later attended Arizona State University where she earned a Master of Social work degree in 1999. She also studied at the Arizona State University College of Law and received a J. D. degree in 2004.

Kyrsten, at the initial stage of her life, has actively served as a social worker. She dedicated seven years of her life serving in the Washington Elementary School District. Then, in 2002, she started her political career by joining the Arizona Green party. Kyrsten later joined the Arizona Democratic Party in 2004.

Sinema ran as an independent for the Arizona House of Representatives in 2002, where she finished in the last place. In 2004, after joining the Democratic Party, she along with David Lujan earned the victory in the Democratic primaries for Arizona’s 15th district. Kyrsten defeated Republican Bob Thomas in the 2020 election of the Arizona Senate, with a 63 to 37 percent vote margin.

Kyrsten was named one of 32 state legislators to the White House Health Reform Task Force by the former U. S. President, Barack Obama. After a year, she was named one of Time magazine’s 40 Under 40. Sinema made an announcement bidding for Congress in January 2012 in the 9th congressional district. She officially took office in January 2013 after winning by 4 percentage points.

Sinema announced herself as one of the candidates for the Class I United States Senate seat on September 28, 2017. She became the first woman to represent Arizona in the United States Senate after she was sworn as a member of the United States Senate on January 3, 2019.

Kyrsten voted against an increment of the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour in March 2021. She was recently opposed by her own supporters after making a refusal to remove the filibuster to pass new voting rights laws in the current year. Many civil rights activists and dozens of liberal voters went against her and protested outside her office in Phoenix.
