Mehmet Cengiz Oz was born in June of 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio to parents Mustafa and Suna.

His father was chief of thoracic surgery at the Medical Center of Delaware, while his mother is the daughter of a pharmacist of Circassian (Shapsug) descent. Meanwhile, Mehmet has two sisters, Seval and Nazlim.
