Diana Ernestine Earle Ross was born in March of 1944 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Fred (1920-2007) and Ernestine (née Moten; 1916-1984). Meanwhile, Ross grew up with two sisters (Barbara and Rita) and three brothers: Arthur; Fred Jr.; and Wilbert.
Furthermore, Diana and her siblings were sent to live with their grandparents after their mother contracted tuberculosis in 1950.
Ross attended a four-year college and preparatory magnet school in downtown Detroit known as Cass Technical High School. Originally, she aspired to be a fashion designer.
Eventually, Ross joined a vocal group called the Primettes, earning an audition for Motown Records by A&R executive and songwriter, Robert Bateman.

In January 1961, Ross and her vocal mates signed to Motown Records under the name “Supremes”. Their first hit, When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes, came nearly three years later.

Overall, the Supremes have released a total of 29 studio albums. Their lone charting album (gold) was Diana Ross & the Supremes Join The Temptations in 1968. Ross would venture on a solo career in 1970.

First, Ross had a child named Rhonda Suzanne Silberstein with Motown CEO Berry Gordy.
Afterward, she married music executive Robert Ellis Silberstein, having a pair of daughters named Tracee Joy and Chudney Lane.
Diana’s second husband was Norwegian shipping magnate Arne Næss Jr. The couple has two sons together, Ross Arne and Evan Olav. Tragically, Naess fell to his death during a South African mountain climbing accident in 2004.
